Pre-Birth Acupuncture

Acupuncture beginning in about the 37th or 38th week of pregnancy has been shown to result in shorter labor times and lower self reported pain scores. It is safe and effective when performed by a skilled practitioner. Many of my patients return in the last month of pregnancy for help with heartburn, back pain, and insomnia.

From a mother who was a fertility patient and returned in week 37 for Pre-Birth acupuncture:

“Jane,
I hope you got Kyle’s message about having to cancel my appointment today. I started contracting at 1:00 this morning and got to the hospital at 7:30 and had him at 12:50. When we got to the hospital, I was surprisingly six t o seven centimeters ! I was praying for four. I really attribute your treatments and using the points during labor for accomplishing labor as seamlessly as it went.

I can’t thank you enough for all your help along our journey to become parents. You are a true gift to your clients. We are so thankful to have a healthy baby boy. He was 8 pounds, 10 ounces and 21 inches.

Thanks again for all your help, and I hope to be in touch!”

From a mother who had previously suffered a stillborn birth and was understandably very worried during her subsequent pregnancy.

“First of all, we had a 9lb baby girl……she is perfectly healthy…..all went well in labor and delievery. And I do think the acupuncture helped with this labor a lot. Here is why: After being given the cervical ripener—Cervidil—at 5:00Wednesday night, I started to have contractions around 3 AM. By 7 AM the next morning, it was time to take out the medicine. The doctor told me that the contractions would likely stop at that time, that only very rarely would a woman continue to contract without the aid of Pitocin. However, I DID continue to contract on my own and my water broke about an hour after they removed the Cervidil. Things started to really pick up from there.

I labored on my own for another 5 or 6 hours………all in all it was a very good experience, compared with my last two. Thanks again for your support in the last week. It was great to have an alternative voice as I prepared myself for such a momentous occasion.”
